Clearing Away

“Clearing Away” is a solo exhibition by Ro Hagers. The title of this exhibition refers to two important aspects of Hagers’ work. Firstly, the literal removal of material from which the reliefs are built up in glued and colored layers of plastic. In addition, he not only removes matter, but dissects the understanding that we have formed about the image or object.

The works on display are based on the unraveling of the essence of things in the course of time. And the question, whether the logic – which is based on a system of definitions by means of exclusion – is sufficient enough to understand or determine the original?

‘Clearing Away’ is een solotentoonstelling van Ro Hagers. De titel van deze tentoonstelling verwijst naar twee belangrijke aspecten van Hagers zijn werk. Ten eerste het letterlijk verwijderen van materiaal waaruit de reliëfs in verlijmde en gekleurde lagen kunststof zijn opgebouwd. Daarnaast verwijderd hij niet enkel materie maar ontleedt hij het begrip wat we over het beeld of object hebben gevormd.

Ten grondslag aan de getoonde werken ligt het ontrafelen van het wezen der dingen in de loop van tijd. En de vraag, of de logica -welke is gebaseerd op een systeem van definities door middel van uitsluiting- wel toereikend genoeg is om het oorspronkelijke te begrijpen of te bepalen?
